Ayurveda is oldest healthcare system in the world. Ayurveda is the science through which we understand the life. While defining Healthy person, it states that ‘ He, whose Doshas are in equilibrium, appetite is good, all systems of body & natural urges are functioning regularly and whose body, mind & spirit are cheerful.
The classical wisdom of Ayurveda has survived through classic texts called Bruhat-trayi – Charaka, Sushruta , Vagbhata and Laghu-trayi – Madhava, Sharangdhara, Bhavprakasha. These texts describe the Fundamental principles of Ayurveda. They are unique in their diagnostics, therapeutics, materia medica and pharmaceutics.
Basic principles of Ayurveda:
- TRIDOSHA: Vata, Pitta and Kapha are three primary and essential forces of human being. When in equilibrium, they regulates activities, metabolism and stability of body respectively.
- DHATU: They form Infrastructure of body through various systems. They are seven in number. Rasa, Rakta, Mansa, Meda, Aasthi, Majja and Shukra.
- PRAKRUTI: Pakruti is, How a particular individual is formed. It is decided as per dominant dosha quotient emerging after fertilisation. These are seven in number. Vata, Pitta, Kapha, Vata-pitta, Vata-Kapha, Pitta-Kapha and Sama prakruti.
- AGNI: Agni is biological fire which is essential for metabolism. Agni manifests as pitta at different places.
- LOK-PURUSH SAMYA: Macrosm and microsm phenomenon is the basis; where three principle powers of nature Air-Sun-Water are represented in our system as Vata-Pitta-Kapha respectively.
- PANCHABHAUTIK SIDDHANT: The human body is made up of five basic elements Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Ether.
- SWASTHAVRITTA: It includes modifications in diet, lifestyle, behaviour and thinking.
They are described under Dinacharya, Rutucharya and Sadvrutta.
Dinacharya: It includes proper timetable during day and night as regards to food intake,
activities, exercise, behaviour etc.
Rutucharya: Altration in regimen as per variations in season.
Sadvrutta and Achar-rasayana: It explains the rules of ethical behaviour.
- RASAYANA: In Ayurveda RASAYANA is a special therapeutic modality.It is a special branch. Regeneration and degeneration are physiological processes in body. The balance between them is life. Rasayana-Rejuvenation helps to restore the body's vitality. It enhances immunity, memory, intelligence. It prevents ageing and promote longevity.
